Blair Brummell is the Vice President of Business Development in the Land department at Phoenix Energy, bringing over 15 years of experience in oil and gas land, negotiation, and business development. He holds a Master of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Texas at Dallas, a Bachelor of Business Administration in Energy Commerce from Texas Tech University’s Rawls College of Business, and holds the Certified Professional Landman (CPL) designation from the American Association of Professional Landmen. Blair has held senior land and commercial roles at some of the industry’s most respected companies—including ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil/XTO, Southwestern Energy, Spur Energy Partners, and Lilis Energy—and previously ran his own land consulting firm, Brummell Advisors, LLC, serving the Permian Basin and Rockies. His transaction experience spans the Bakken, Permian Basin, Delaware Basin, and Appalachian regions, with notable achievements including developing and divesting an exploratory play in Pennsylvania for $127 million with no originally allocated value, enhancing ExxonMobil/XTO’s Delaware Basin portfolio by $500 million through targeted acquisitions and leasing strategy, and closing a $300 million trade with Range Resources.
Blair thrives on the deal-making side of land work—finding creative solutions to complex negotiations and closing transactions that drive real value. He is equally motivated by mentoring the next generation of landmen and building teams that perform at a high level. At Phoenix Energy, he aims to leverage his extensive network, commercial acumen, and multi-basin transactional track record to accelerate the company’s growth strategy, strengthen relationships with mineral owners and industry partners, and help build a best-in-class land and business development function.
Originally from Plano, Texas, Blair is married with two children, James and Olivia. Outside of work, he enjoys hiking—having summited three of the five highest peaks in Texas, including Guadalupe Peak and Bush Mountain—as well as fishing, hunting, golfing, and traveling.
